Slammed Door vs Locked Door — Not the Same Job
If you're locked out in Brussels, the first question matters: did the door slam, or did you lock it? The technique, time, and cost are completely different.
Latch engaged, lock never turned
Non-destructive opening in most cases. No cylinder replacement, no new keys. Everything stays as it was.
Cylinder engaged, bolt fully locked
We always try the least destructive method first. In the worst case, the cylinder is replaced. You leave with 3 new keys.
Not sure? Call us and describe what you see — we'll know in 30 seconds. We cover all of Brussels. On site in 20–30 minutes.
How We Open Your Door — What Actually Happens
No mystery, no surprises. Here's the process for each situation.
Specialised card + WD-40
We assess the door gap, lubricate the frame, and release the latch pen by pen with controlled pressure. On 3-latch doors, inflatable wedges allow us to work each latch individually. Done correctly — your door looks untouched.
3 levels — least destructive first
- 1 Non-destructive attempt — if a spare key is available or the cylinder allows it, we try to open without any damage first.
- 2 Grip wrench — if that's not possible, we break the cylinder cleanly. Fast, controlled, minimal damage.
- 3 Drilling — last resort only. New European-certified cylinder fitted on the spot. You leave with 3 keys.
Older Brussels doors with no cylinder — keyhole only: we use thin metal tools to manually manipulate the mechanism. Takes longer, but it can always be done.
Two Situations That Change Everything
Key left on the other side
Door slammed: no issue — we open it the same way, key inside changes nothing.
Door locked: we drill exactly half the cylinder. Go too far and we hit the key — the mechanism fragments. What should be a 30-minute job becomes hours of work. Precision is everything.
Damaged or seized cylinder
Already partially drilled or forced: we're working blind inside a broken mechanism. Every failed DIY attempt before we arrive makes the job harder, longer, and more expensive.
A cylinder that's been tampered with can no longer be opened cleanly — full replacement is the only option.
Locked Out in Brussels? Don't Try This First
Works in theory on any slammed door. In practice, the card snaps inside the gap and what was a simple opening becomes a cylinder drill — more time, more cost, more damage.
What we find when someone tried before calling us:
- Credit card broken in the door gap — forces a cylinder drill on a job that needed none
- Cylinder half-drilled or torn at an angle — we're working blind inside a broken mechanism
- Door frame warped from forcing — won't close properly even after we open it
The rule: slammed door = fast and cheap if you call immediately. Every failed DIY attempt makes it slower and more expensive. The damage costs more than the opening.
